Create a new mail file from the 8.5 template

The Notes calendar is part of the mail file. Create a new mail database using File - Application - New, then select the Mail (R8.5) template and fill in the rest of the fields.

This new mail file will include Calendar capabilities.

Whether a standalone Notes install is the best overall solution for your wife's PIM and Blackberry requirements is a broader topic.
